Tutorial: Using Motion Detection to control Playback on Video Kiosk


Motion detection playback is a great option if people walk up to your Kiosk, like in a retail display or a museum. Video Kiosk uses the camera to detect motion and then starts playing. It will stop playing media if no motion is detected for the amount of time you specify.

Requirements

Using Motion Detection PlaybackTo use this feature, your Android device must have a front-facing camera.

  • Most phones and tablets come with a camera installed.
  • Most Android TVs do not come with a camera installed, but you can buy a third-party USB camera to connect to the Android TV.

How to Enable Motion Detection Playback

To enable motion detection playback, follow these steps:

  1. Configure Video Kiosk motion detection.
  2. Go to Video Kiosk Settings > Schedule > Detect motion
    and check “Use the camera to detect motion”
  3. If required, update the Motion Detection Timeout minutes. Default is 5 minutes. (We suggest you test run your Video Kiosk with that timeout and then adjust as necessary.)
  4. Click “OK”

The device will start playing the content loop if motion is detected. It will stop playing the content loop if no motion is detected within the Motion Detection Timeout minutes.


How to disable Motion Detection Playback

To disable this feature:

  1. Go to Video Kiosk Settings > Schedule > Detect motion
    and uncheck “Use the camera to detect motion”
  2. Click “OK”

The device will no longer use motion detection to start playing the content loop.
