Is there an option to download the apk for sideloading during the initial trial period?

Yes. The .apk can always be downloaded from here:
https://burningthumb.com/download/videokiosk/latest/VideoKiosk-videokiosk-release.apk.zip
In fact, if you need the .apk you should only download it directly from us and not from the online .apk sites as they often have old, out of date, .apk files.
