BurningThumb Studios updates Video Kiosk – Android: version 4.3.0 released

Richmond, Canada — BurningThumb Studios has released a new version of Video Kiosk, its Android digital signage and looping video App. Version 4.3.0 of Video Kiosk adds the following features:

  • Multiple backgrounds can now be displayed in rotation behind digital signage to prevent persistent images on displays that are susceptible to screen burn in
  • Widget area padding in Digital Signage mode can be adjusted so widgets aligned
  • The Home button can be used to verify the Home App and/or set the Home App
  • The Home and Exit buttons are removed if Video Kiosk is the only Home App on the device

Video Kiosk is easy to use, full featured digital signage App for Android that can play video and images in a robust, reliable loop on any Android TV, tablet or phone. Video Kiosk was designed specifically to be both feature rich and easy to use, so that customers can either use its a full range of video display features or just show a video in a loop.

Originally developed to show a folder of videos at a Dojo, Video Kiosk has evolved in to a full-featured looping video player that not only supports Unattended Kiosk Mode but also Interactive Kiosk Mode, Digital Signage Mode and Interactive Digital Signage Mode. “I was looking to put a folder of looping videos on the big screen TV at the gym so that we could display the schedule, video of our team at competitions and notices of events”, says Robert Wiebe, founder of BurningThumb Studios, “I couldn’t find an App that was reliable, could show a folder of videos and that could be remotely updated. So, I wrote my own.”

Video Kiosk offers robust playback that skips bad video files instead of pausing and will automatically re-boot rooted devices and start playing again, so that human intervention is not required. Video Kiosk is flexible so when the media files in the folder are changed, the new selection of media will play the next time the loop starts. Content as well as configuration files can be remotely managed using a cloud service, such as Google Drive or Dropbox. This combination of features delivers a robust, flexible Video Kiosk that can be remotely managed from anywhere there is an Internet connection.

Says Wiebe,“I looked at ways to create and remotely update a robust and powerful digital signage video kiosk.  The apps I found were complex, cumbersome, error prone, and subject to failure – so complex that I was the only person who could keep the video display running. I needed a Video Kiosk that could run unattended, so I wrote one.  Now, the big screen in our gym runs continuously and the TV stays on.”
